| Once again I find myself full of great expectations, hopes and plans, all surrounding the new LMB CD ( fortunaltey enough, I haven't lost my ability to get excited over new projects) and moreso on this occasion in which almost all the themes recorded are originals, one of which is mine, with a verse that repeats over and over "The only thing I can do is just play the blues"(when things go badly, I don't have any money and no work, the only thing I can do is just play the blues). A few years ago I went through a difficult moment, one of those real bluesy moments. I was truley in bad shape. Those times when no one calls and when you can't call anyone, are moments when you take to readjusting things in your life, you even take to thinking about playing other types of music, just to survive |
|
Those were bad times, but I finally reached the conclusion that the only way out was to continue playing ,more and if possible, better, and there was jazz and blues to help me pull through. I came out of there with a stronger force of will to endeavour a new stage in the life of the LMB, and I say new because , although the band was enjoying a relative success, and was sounding tight, there was still a step to be taken, and that was the step towards original themes, something rather out of the norm and difficult in the jazz world, but I do believe that we have achieved a sound of our own, the LMB sound, with these originals. And with all due modesty, I do believe they hold their own in the world of jazz standards. On an almost casual basis, a work team took shape ( besides the group musicians), formed by old friends and magnificent professionals. People that I hadn't had much contact with recently, but who all decided they wanted to form a part of the project, all agreeing in that it was an interesting adventure, and all on an altruist level. I can't help but feel proud of them and of this project. |

Jaime Moreno Sound engineer, contributed with his experience and knowledge in acustics during the recording, aside from volunteering his own equipment. He is also a guitar player, manufactures his own amplifiers ZETANG with which Enrique recorded. Thank you Jaime.
Gonzalo Lasheras He has been the father of this whole invention, he made reality this production bringing in his own material, and that of his friends to the Garibay studio, recorded the songs live, just as I wanted, and later in his studio did a subtle and magnificent post production. All this counting on a limited budget...zero. When in the summer of 1998 I mentioned to him that I wanted to record a new CD, and half jokingly I insinuated that I would like him to produce it, I never in my wildest dreams thought he would say yes. This was possibly one of the main reasons that made me go for it. I'll always be grateful to you, Gonzalo.
I would like to dedicate a few words to my buddies, the actual formation of the LMB.
Jose Luis Yagüe
You have accomplished quite a feat, overcoming difficulties, and I greatly value your devotion and your patience with me. You're a great person.
Mariano Díaz
Mariano Diaz: I observe your progress with pleasure, and I hope to be able to continue to do so, as you contribute much to the LMB. Thank you for taking me closer to jazz, and for stimulating me with your effort and dedication.
Enrique Garcia
You are a necessary reference for me as far as the direction of the group is concerned, musically and personally. Your wisdom and modesty are vitally important.
Doris Cales
Doris Cales: You've been the face and voice of the LMB for a long time, and without a doubt, my favorite. Someday you will recieve the payment due you for your excellent work, your professionalism and "feeling", and because I still believe that "those who know how to hold in there, in the end win the battle". You're much more than a fifth of the group, and things would by no means be the same without you.
I would also like to give my thanks to all those musicians who have worked with me during these past twelve years, and that have made it possible for the group to remain alive; I appreciate their work and apologize if at any moment I made decisions that were unpopular; it was always in benefit of the group; a group you all formed a part of, and which is finally a great reality Thanks to each and every one of you.
I would like to dedicate this CD to my parents, Santiago (may he rest in peace), Margarita, and my daughter Lea, who has lived through this project, and whose support I was always lucky to have.

| THE LAST TRAIN |
Música – MARIANO DIAZ Letra – DORIS CALES Arreglo – MARIANO DIAZ
|
| I
see that look in your eye
it means you're walking away from me and there ain't nothing I'll say to make you stay. You never said you'd be mine no, not for too long a time The flame was strong but now you're on your way Tell me why why is the road that you travel a lonely one?
|
Oh,
can't you wait just a little bit longer
before you leave me on that last train that'll take you away from me I knew it wouldn't be easy and I don't want to bring you down If I'm weak please forgive me 'cause I don't want to bring you down Ther's no use in my pleading 'cause I don't want to bring you down A part of me will be leaving on that train.

| THE ONLY THING I CAN DO IS JUST PLAY THE BLUES |
Música y Letra – LARRY MARTIN Arreglo – LARRY MARTIN Adaptación Letra – DORIS CALES
|
| When I get out
of my bed
I see dark clouds up ahead I got some holes in my shoes Nothing good will come my way But until that day comes along The only thing I can do is just play the blues My unemployment's overdue And my landlords' being cruel Still I'm not losing my cool Something good is coming soon But until that day comes along |
The only thing
I can do is just play the blues
When I'm out on stage and the musics' playing I'm so happy But that ain't enough to pay my bills and buy some food Still everything is gonna change And it'll be a brand new day My time for styling is due Ready world I'm stepping through But until that day comes along The only thing I can do is just play the blues.
|
| IF I ASKED YOU |
Música – DORIS CALES &ENRIQUE GARCIA Letra – DORIS CALES Arreglo – ENRIQUE GARCIA
|
| You said you
needed time to think us over
just took your things and moved right on your way I bet myself that you'd come running home, boy And when you didn't, I nearly went insane I'm trying not to think about tomorrow it moves so slowly since you went away I'll close my eyes and feel you here beside me and make believe there was no yesterday If I asked you
|
Would you stay?
Have you found what you were after Am I in the way? If I needed you to stay Would you say that you were sorry and just fade away? I light the stairs and set the table for you I fix my hair, some make-up and perfume The silence that surrounds me keeps repeating Hurry back babe, Please don't take too long |
| SOFT AND MELLOW |
Música – DORIS CALES & ENRIQUE GARCIA Letra – DORIS CALES Arreglo – ENRIQUE GARCIA
|
| You're sweet
as honey and I love you more each day
You give me shelter from the storms that come my way When I'm alone I hear your voice and feel the touch of your embrace You're as soft and mellow as a summer's day The tender secrets that you whisper in my ear The smile that's in your eye before it's on your lips
|
I stand before
you with my heart aglow
I need you more each day You're as soft and mellow as a summer's day Happiness is in your arms Love is here to stay Soft and mellow and it's here to stay Happiness is in your arms and love is here to stay soft and mellow and it's here to stay.

| NATURE BOY |
Música y Letra – EDEN AHBEZ Arreglo – LMB Introducción de guitarra – ENRIQUE GARCIA
|
| There was a
boy
A very strange, enchanted boy We know he wandered very far, very far Over land and sea A little shy, and sad of eyes Oh, but very wise was he And then one day
|
One magic day
he passed my way
And though we spoke of many things Fools and kings This he said to me The best of things That a man can learn Is just to love And be loved in return. |
| BEING COOL |
Música – MARIANO DIAZ Letra – DORIS CALES Arreglo – MARIANO DIAZ
|
| You seem to
send a signal every moment I'm with you
Just going on a feeling but I think I'm falling too Well you shake me up and you move me You know just what you have to do And you're talking like you know me You seem to light a fire when you touch me like you do
|
You've taken
me beyond what's good and I don't want to choose
I'd be lying if I told you that I ain't trying to be smooth Are you trying to confuse me? Being cool to hell with being cool There are no rules can't bother with....cool. |
| TEACH ME TONIGHT |
Música – GENE DE PAUL Letra – SAMMY CUHN Arreglo – MARIANO DIAZ
|
| Did you say
I've got alot to learn?
Well don't think I'm trying not to learn Since this is the perfect spot to learn Teach me tonight Starting with the abc of it Right down to the xyz of it Help me solve the mystery of it Teach me tonight The sky's a blackboard |
Hight above
you
If a shooting star goes by I'll take that star and write "I love you" A thousand times across the sky One thing isn't very clear my love Should th teacher stand so near,my love? Graduation's almost here my love So teach me tonight. |
| LAZY |
Música – MARIANO DIAZ Letra – DORIS CALES Arreglo – MARIANO DIAZ
|
| Feeling easy
and ever so breezy
And time wants to stay here beside me today And I can just feel the touch and the warmth of the sun And my burdens are falling away Closing my eyes I can feel the clouds fly and I know that they're smiling, smiling at me |
Hanging around
with my feet off the ground
Feeling lazy and hazy and free I'm just like clean water in the sun all aglow Flowing and teasing and bright Feeling hazy and lazy and free I can be, be so free, free to see, see in me, me only, only be, being me. |
| MADRID MOOD |
Música – MARIANO DIAZ Letra – DORIS CALES Arreglo – MARIANO DIAZ
|
| Night hasn't
fallen yet on this special town
But you can see that things will be coming down Streets are filled with comes and goes Dark desires that fly Searching for those secrets behind our eyes Where to go When you're in the mood? In the groove |
Name your game
and feel your way through now
Careful with what you say All the ears are tuned And ther's always someone with nothing to lose This town is like a flame that never dies and always burns....in the end Name your game and feel your way through now. |
| BUT BEATIFULL |
Música – VAN HEUSEN Letra – BURKE Arreglo – MARIANO DIAZ
|
| Love is funny
Love is sad Love is quiet Or it's mad It's a good thing Or it's bad But it's beautiful,it's beautiful To take a chance And if you fall you really fall And I've been thinking I would not mind,at all No, not at all |
Love is
fearful
Or it's gay It's a problem Or it's play It's a heartache either way But it's beautiful And I've been thinking If you were mine I would never No I would never let you go And that would be But beautiful I know. |
| LOOKING FOR Mr. GOODBYE |
Música – DORIS CALES & ENRIQUE GARCIA Letra – DORIS CALES Arreglo – ENRIQUE GARCIA
|
| I'm waiting to
see if you're going to make your move
But all I can see is that you haven't a clue I'm taking my time and I'm just looking around And here's what I've found babe Here's what I've found I'm looking for someone who will make me feel free And I know you ain't got what it takes, what I need I'm wasting my time this ain't no story to regret I'm keeping all my secrets and I'm keeping my respect I'm looking for the cause of all this misery |
And I hope you
don't mind that I say, in privacy
I can't remember what I saw in you that blew my cool 'Cause frankly honey, you ain't nothing better than a fool I don't know if I will find the time to say good-bye, to say good-bye But just in case believe me it's been fun, aurevoir, so long. Just one last word I have to say 'fore I'm through Don't go thinking I'll be lost, I'll be blue You can keep the dog and your mother's photo too I don't need a thing 'cause I'm finally rid of you. |

This all has been an extraordinary experience, the making of this record, besides all the preliminary complications, and of course it was all possible thanks to Larrys' insistence, who as always, is always ready and willing. I hope to repeat the experience soon. Jose Luis Yagüe Whenever you go into a studio, everything seems initially difficult, and there's always the suspicion that you're not going to be happy with the end result. This was not the case. Everything went smoothly, and therefore I'm looking forward to the next recording. Thanks to all my buddies and to music. Without either my life would be difficult Enrique Garcia
A lot of rain has come down since we recorded our first CD and, Oh Miracle!, we're still together, and still enjoying the task and delight of making music. That is without a doubt, quite an achievement. I wish to thank all those who made this recording possible and pleasant. It goes without saying that I am grateful to my group buddies, for having let me learn into some of their musical secrets. I've learned alot from you guys, and I'm still learning. And a word to you, Larry; you're very special to me. I dedicate this CD as always and with all my love to my dearest Boobins and Luis. Doris Cales
