RICARDO "RICHIE" FERRER - VALENCIA - CONTRABASS

         He studies briefly in the Valencia Conservatory, but it is in 1975, at the age of 1 3, when he begins to feel a true vocation for music, and begins to play the guitar on a self-taught basis, going on to play  the  electric bass two years later,until he turns 19, age at which his interest moves towards jazz,and thus begins to study the counter bass. 

          Between 1985 and 1989, he commences an intense musical activity in Valencia, working with musicians of importance such as CARLOS GONZALBEZ or the saxophone player PERICO SANBEAT     

        

of Spain, and in 1990, he goes on tour with the saxophone player LOU DONALSON,  moving to Madrid, where he becomes a mBetween 1988 and 1989 he forms a part of the cuartet leadered by the northamerican saxophone player DAVE SCHNITTER, with whom he performs throughout all ember of during two years of PEDRO ITURRALDE's cuartet

           He presently resides in Madrid, where he imparts music classes in the Escuela de Musica Creativa(The School of Creative Music), and in the summer of 1999, he becomes a member of the LARRY MARTIN BAND.           

          He has worked with international musicians such as: JIM SNIDERO, JEANNE LEE, BOB MOVER, BARRY HARRIS, LOU DONALSON, HAROLD LAND, DAVE SCHINETTER, MONTY WATERS, PAUL STOCKER, GARY SMULYAN, CINTHYA MCPERSON, PEDRO ITURRALDE, PERICO SANBEAT, RAMON CARDO, JUAN CARLOS CALDERON, JEAN TOUSSAINT, SANTIAGO REYES, RICHI COLE, JAMES MOODY, etc. he has participated in jam sessions with: WYNTON MARSALIS, WES ANDERSON, TETE MONTOLIU, JOE HENDERSON, JIMMY OWENS, EDDIE HENDERSON, DOUG RANEY, etc.  

           He has recorded with PERICO SANBEAT, NEOBOP, and CHEMA SAIZ CUARTET, and has appeared in television programs such as "JAZZ ENTRE AMIGOS" with PEDRO ITURRALDE, SEAN LEVIT , and on Valencia's Canal 9 with LOU DONALSON. He has also worked with musicians outside of the jazz scene, such as JAVIER ALVAREZ, GERMAN COPINI, or the well known singer-song writer CARLOS CANO.

           Although he is basically self-taught, it would be interesting to emphasize his studies with MARK JOHNSON, MIKE RICHMOND, CHUCK ISRAEL, CHIP JACKSON, HERBIE LEWIS, and HARVEY SHWARTZ
