Songs of blues and jazz that are interpreted by a singular unique voice transmitting sensations and emotions accompanied by musicians who standout in their solos which are achieved through arrangements that create an ambiance that submerges the listener into a universe of musical sound of unforgettable standards that have been sung by Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Elis Regina, Al Jarreau, Shirley Horn , Stevie Wonder, etc., along with originals written by the band each of them with their own particular intention of modern sound.
The unique voice full of sensuality and strength belongs to Yoio Cuesta, a young and attractive woman who unites fabulous vocal qualities with a great capacity of interpretation bringing out each melody and story to come alive. Larry Martin heard her sing for the first time in a bar one night and was so impressed and impacted by her freshness and feeling that he incorporated her in the band in April 2005. The group first began towards the end of 1987 which included musicians of such recognized prestige in the jazz circuits like: Domingo Sanchez (piano), Richie Ferrer ( contrabass) and Enrique Garcia (guitar), performing in concerts, clubs, festivals, cultural centers, etc., all over Spain. From 1997 until 2000 they had performed every single summer in EL JARDIN DEL JAZZ of the Hotel Castellana International (Madrid) for an international public that truely appreciated jazz. In 1993 they recorded live on the Spanish TV program “AREA RESERVADA” participating in a compiled CD from the XVI International Jazz Festival of Getxo and another CD of the I CYCLE OF JAZZ (1993) of the University of Malaga.
In the spring of 2005 a new period takes place making changes in the formation with it's band members, a new repertoire and a proyect of another CD, their strong point has always been playing live which is why they record again in August 2005 from Café Central "HERE’S TO LIFE" (Indigo records), an album of standards containg such unforgettable songs like "For once in my life", “Take five” or “Here’s to life” along with their own songs like "Sweet Love", "Still Alive" or "Nada que ver" (the first song that they record in spanish). An eclectic work demonstrating the evolution and the capacity of this band which is edited in January 2006.
In the fall of 2008 celebrating its 20th anniversary released their last CD "ONE DAY I’LL FLY AWAY" (Indigo Records), his most ambitious album, with a meticulous production and many guest artists, where you can find "standards" as " Easy Living, "" Hit the road Jack "," New York state of mind " or " One day I'll fly away ", the song that gives name to the CD and includes a string quartet that brings a new dimension the band's sound. There are also two original songs, "If they knew" and "Breathless" in this new and eclectic work that shows the evolution of the group and the contributions of each musician.
The group is lead and directed by Larry Martin, a jazz drummer with a wide experience who has worked with many of the best musicians and artists of the country or those who have passed through Madrid. He is one of founding members of the group GUADALQUIVIR in 1978. He maintains his intense music activity by performing didactic concerts and although he collaborates with other musicians, since 1996 he brings most of his time and energy to the LARRY MARTIN BAND seeking personal and collective improvement.
